Can Homecoming Week Still Be Fun During a Pandemic?

The UPB Organization at Georgia Southern University kicked off homecoming week with over 50 students in Sweetheart Circle during the Grow to New Heights Event on Nov. 2.

The event was held outside to allow for social distancing and masks were enforced. Students attending had to fill out a health screening prior to participating in the event.

The university had only reported 3 positive cases during the prior week, but recent cases in Bulloch County have risen over 1,500. Members of the UPB Organization regularly wiped down tables, seats, and shared markers during the event.

The Grow to New Heights Event is one of only two in person events being held during the 2020 homecoming week due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

It allowed for 62 students to come hang out, plant succulents, decorate pots, and enjoy the start of Georgia Southern University's annual homecoming week.

Mia Kologranic with Eagle News has more on the event.
